There are systems of small and medium capacity for which it
makes sense to render the conduction as easily and simply as
possible. The purification cycle is the type of active sludge in
the “simplified outline” in which the primary sedimentation
phase is abolished, and the sewage waters, after the normal
preliminary treatment, is then sent directly to the biological
phase of aeration. It was verified that, in the event of
intermittent drainages (food industries such as cheese factories,
canneries, sausage factories, wine cellars, slaughterhouses,
schools, colleges, isolated communities, etc.) with
intermittence that externalizes in practically empty cargos in
certain hours (for example during the night) or on certain days
of the week (during holidays and weekends), the phases of
primary sedimentation is cause for serious difficulties for the
systems that are so equipped, since the long periods of
detainment, during the periods of reduced or empty cargo,
provokes the fast anaerobic fermentation, with formation of
noxious odors, arising from sludge from the bottom, etc. |

The differentiation from the traditional system
is constituted from the fact that the surplus activated sludge
comes from the secondary sedimentation unit (fresh sludge),
instead of enduring a treatment of anaerobic stabilization, and
is subjected to one aerobic digestion. |
